The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will close part of Jalan Raja for 1 week from June 9 to 15.

In a statement, the city council said the affected road sections include the area in front of the Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad Building, starting from Jalan Tun Perak to the intersection with Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. Traffic diversions will be implemented to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

Light vehicles coming from Jalan Raja, however, can still turn right onto Jalan Tun Perak.

“However, vehicles from Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Tun Perak will not be allowed to enter Jalan Raja. Signage and enforcement officers will be put up to assist road users to adjust to these adjustments,” DBKL said, reported Malaysia Gazette.

During this period, GOKL, RapidKL, and Hop On Hop Off (HOHO) bus routes will also experience temporary changes following the road closure. Therefore, users of these services are advised to refer to their respective service operators to obtain further information regarding changes to the routes and bus stops involved.

This closure is implemented as part of DBKL’s initiative towards creating a more livable, pedestrian-friendly, and organised Kuala Lumpur city centre. The partial closure of Jalan Raja will open up a wider and safer space for pedestrians, especially families, children, senior citizens, and the disabled.

The partial closure is also DBKL’s attempt to try to activate cultural and artistic activities in the area around Merdeka Square.

To ensure that every view and need of city residents is taken into account, DBKL is conducting a public survey to obtain public feedback on this proposed closure.
